KIGALI, RWANDA.
When compared to other African cities, Kigali is relatively easy to navigate on a budget. The gorilla trekking tours in Volcanoes National Park are popular among Rwandan tourists. Those tours, on the other hand, can easily cost $750 or more.
According to Trip Advisor, there are cheaper tours available for as little as $240. If that’s still too much money for you, skip gorilla trekking entirely and instead take a $84 cruise on Lake Kivu or support the locals by booking a cultural walking tour.
CAIRO, EGYPT.
Despite its popularity, Egypt is one of the most affordable African countries to visit if you’re on a tight budget. The Giza Pyramids should be on your itinerary from the start. If you’ve done your homework, you’ll know that your experience is determined by the tickets you buy. A ticket to the Giza Plateau costs $10, according to Egypt Travel. If you want to splurge a little more, Egypt Pyramid Tours offers a $35 day trip that includes both the Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx.
NAIROBI, KENYA.
Nairobi, known as one of the world’s safari capitals, is another popular but pricey destination. Breakfast with giraffes is one of its most famous activities, with rates starting around $620 per night. You don’t want to spend that much money? The good news is that there are other options, such as visiting Nairobi’s National Park. The entrance fee is $50, and visitors still could see some of the world’s most beautiful wildlife up close.
ZANZIBAR, TANZANIA.
Zanzibar was once thought to be one of those once-in-a-lifetime trips reserved for those with a lot of money. Don’t get us wrong: Zanzibar is still a beautiful and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but if you travel at the right time, you can get a round-trip ticket for much less than the average price of $1500. The best part about Zanzibar is that once you arrive, all you have to do is head to the beach to enjoy luxury and beauty for free.
ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA.
In terms of East Africa, airlines such as Ethiopian Airlines have made Addis Abeba not only more accessible, but also more affordable than ever. Ethiopia’s capital city has a lot to offer as one of Africa’s largest cities. Travel Noire, on the other hand, recommends a visit to the National Museum.
According to the National Museum of Ethiopia the Museum houses the nation’s artistic treasures as well as one of the best archaeological finds: the remains of early hominids, the most famous of which is “Lucy.” The museum’s admission fee is less than $1.
CAPE COAST, GHANA.
The castle, like other slave castles in Ghana, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is free to visit. Adults will pay $7 to enter, while students will pay $4. Although it is inexpensive, expect an emotional visit with your tour guide, who will explain how the castles served as the starting point of the Transatlantic slave trade, where a number of African slaves were transported to North America.

SENEGAL’S CAPITAL, DAKAR.
One unexpected aspect of Dakar is how beautiful and vibrant the streets are. What could be more breathtaking? The shores. Take a bus or taxi to Ngor Island if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Dakar. Your ride should cost no more than 2,500 CFA, or about $4, and take no longer than 15 minutes.
